Visit a Sedation Dentist After Being in an Accident

Sedation DentistAs a sedation dentist, we are focused on providing you with the highest quality of dental care in a way that is entirely comfortable and relaxing.  We understand that many adults suffer from dental anxiety and that this anxiety prevents them from receiving the care that they need.  This is made worse if a tooth is damaged during an accident since the trauma of the accident can only heighten feelings of anxiety.  If you are in this situation, we encourage you to call our office and schedule an appointment.

We can provide you with a relaxing experience so that you can have your tooth restored, the damaged corrected and any oral health problems addressed.  The process of sedation is relatively simple.  We will give you a small pill to take an hour before your procedure so that you can take it to relax.  This medication does not numb you, but it relaxes you, taking away your anxiety or fear.  In many cases, this is where the discomfort originates from, not the actual procedure.  Once you are nice and relaxed, we can get started and you may even nod off while we work on your teeth. While you will have full control over your body and be able to respond to commands, you will have a fuzzy memory regarding the actual procedure which will further relax you.

As a sedation dentist, we have found that by offering this solution people that would otherwise avoid dental care can receive the help that they need.  After an accident, this is particularly important because if a damaged tooth is left untreated, bacteria can enter the center of the tooth, infect the dental pulp and create a more serious situation.  Once a damaged tooth has been infected, we may need to perform a root canal to remove the infection and prevent the tooth from needing to be pulled.  This, however, is typically unnecessary if the damaged tooth is restored immediately.

Another benefit of visiting a sedation dentist is that you can often have significant dental work completed in one visit, rather than needing to come in several times.  This can save you a lot of time, prevent the need for taking more than one day off of work and get you on the road to recovery faster.  Under normal circumstances, patients can only tolerate sitting in the dental chair for so long.  Once they have reached a point of discomfort, we stop the procedure and have them come back to finish.  With sedation, this is not an issue because most people are so relaxed that they can tolerate a longer treatment time that allows for us to complete most, if not all, of the necessary restorations.  If you have been in an accident, this means that your teeth can be restored in both function and appearance quickly so that you can feel normal again and stop living with restrictions regarding what you can and cannot eat.  The benefits of sedation are vast.  To learn more, give us a call and schedule a consultation.
